Webinar: “EcoSurv: Results after the first 18 months of the project”
On the morning of 12 November 2025, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., the webinar entitled “EcoSurv: Results from the First 18 Months of the Project” will take place.
This event is organised by the Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale dell’Abruzzo e del Molise ‘G. Caporale’ (IZSAM) as the lead partner of the EU4Health (2024–2026) co-funded national project.
Accredited for Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits (4.5 credits), the webinar is intended for veterinarians, medical doctors, biologists, chemists, pharmacists, biomedical laboratory technicians, and health and safety technicians.
The “EcoSurv” project (acronym for “Establishment of a surveillance system on selected (re)emergent and at-risk of introduction zoonoses based on an ecological approach”) aims to develop an integrated, comprehensive, and holistic surveillance system for selected (re)emerging and at-risk zoonoses in Italy, adopting a One Health approach.
In particular, the project:
-
considers the entire spectrum of animal species present in an ecosystem (zoocoenosis) that may play a role in the transmission or persistence of these diseases;
-
develops innovative surveillance and diagnostic methodologies targeting disease hosts, vectors, and the environment;
-
produces early warning indicators and data that are useful for assessing the risk of introduction or re-emergence of priority zoonotic agents in Italy, thereby contributing to preparedness at the Mediterranean level;
-
is structured into several Work Packages (WP) covering surveillance of domestic ruminants and vectors, migratory birds and the environment, pig farms and wild boars, wild and synanthropic mammals, and data management.
As noted by Dr. Paolo Calistri, the project’s scientific coordinator and veterinary officer at IZSAM:
“After these first eighteen months of interdisciplinary work and data collection, we are ready to share the results and open a discussion on future directions for an integrated surveillance system that protects the health of humans, animals, and the environment.”
